This series began with an interest in gesture and stance being indicative of a state of mind. The hands and figures in the pieces were built up with encaustic paint into a very low relief and then combined with cursive scribbles done in pen on mulberry paper. The paper was saturated with wax and embedded in the painting. A friend referred to the figures as "handmaidens", which I liked. I see them as quietly expressing a balance between fragility and resilience, entropy and regeneration.
